Our 2024 Recap

Emergency Service Calls Last Year Alone

Hours On Call

How Can You Help?

The number of volunteers has dropped dramatically – from 300,000 in the 1970s to just 38,000 in 2018.

Our department depends on people just like you — students, parents, retirees, and working professionals — all giving what they can to keep Hollidaysburg safe. Whether it’s answering a fire call, making sandwiches at a fundraiser, or lending your time behind the scenes, your help makes our mission possible. Every skill matters, and every volunteer strengthens our team.

This shortage makes every new volunteer more important than ever.

📊 Did you know?

Volunteers make up over 70% of the nation’s firefighters, and in communities like ours, they’re often the only line of defense when emergencies strike.

You Can Make a Difference On the Front Lines of Every Call

Answer The Call

Volunteers on the Front Line

Every time the alarm rings — whether it’s a house fire, car crash, or medical emergency — our volunteer responders are the ones who show up. They train hard, respond fast, and risk their lives to protect others. If you’ve ever felt the call to serve, now’s the time to answer it.

We provide full training, equipment, and mentorship. No experience necessary — just a willingness to step up for your community.

Operational Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Probationary Firefighter – Train and respond as a full member of the team

  • Junior Firefighter (ages 16–17) – Learn the ropes and assist with operations

  • Fire Police Officer – Control traffic and secure emergency scenes

These frontline roles are vital to our mission. Whether you’re just getting started or ready to commit long-term, we have a place for you.

If you’re ready to serve Hollidaysburg, we’re ready to train you.

You Can Make a Difference

No Gear Required

Not everyone can give financially — and not every volunteer fights fires. From planning events to maintaining gear, every helping hand keeps our department strong. If you have a talent, we can use it. When you give your time, you become part of something bigger — a team that protects Hollidaysburg together.

We welcome volunteers to help with:

  • Cooking and serving meals at community events

  • Promoting fundraisers and sharing on social media

  • Cleaning and maintaining gear and equipment

  • Assisting with admin tasks or organizing events

  • Offering creative skills like photography, design, or writing

  • Training to become a firefighter or EMT (if you’re interested!)

It takes all kinds of people to keep a community safe — we’d love to have you on our team.

If you’ve got a talent, we’ve got a place for it.
